Delta State Residents Urged to Prioritise Environmental Cleanliness

OLEH/Nigeria: The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri, and the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Ejiro Jamani, have called on residents across the state to embrace the practice of regular environmental cleaning.

The appeal was made on Saturday in Oleh, the administrative headquarters of Isoko South, during the November end-of-month sanitation exercise.

At the bustling Yanga Market in Oleh, both officials issued stern warnings to traders against unlawful and indiscriminate trading on government-designated right-of-way areas. They emphasised that violators would face strict penalties in accordance with the law. Traders operating in and around the market were also directed to leave their shops temporarily and participate actively in the sanitation exercise.

Commissioner Jamani highlighted the intrinsic link between a well-maintained environment and sustainable development, stressing that a clean environment attracts investment and fosters growth. He urged traders to adhere to government regulations to ensure orderliness in their business activities.

“Traders must refrain from selling on government right-of-way. Those who flout this directive will face sanctions. I commend the Isoko South Council Chairman for spearheading the clean-up of Yanga Market and its surrounding areas,” Jamani stated.

Comrade Warri expressed his gratitude to the Environment Commissioner for travelling from Asaba, the state capital, to join the exercise in Oleh.

“It is a pleasure to have the Commissioner for Environment participate in today’s sanitation exercise. God bless you, my brother. The people of Isoko South and the government deeply appreciate your commitment,” Warri remarked.

The exercise culminated in an on-the-spot inspection, during which shop owners were observed actively cleaning their premises, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a healthy and attractive environment.
