Delta State Remains Solvent Under Oborevwori’s Prudent Financial Management – Aniagwu

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State remains financially solvent and capable of meeting its obligations due to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s prudent financial management anchored on fiscal discipline, accountability, and efficiency, the state government has said.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, stated this during a live television interview monitored in Asaba, where he dismissed claims of financial strain in the state and lauded the governor’s governance philosophy.
Aniagwu described Oborevwori as a leader who has consistently defied critics with tangible achievements. “One of Oborevwori’s greatest assets is the fact that he is underrated. His financial management abilities are almost second to none. Even as Speaker of the State House of Assembly for six years, he returned N500 million unspent funds to the state coffers at the end of his tenure,” he said.
He further emphasized that the governor’s fiscal policies have ensured the timely execution of critical infrastructure projects. “During our first Executive Council meeting of 2025, we approved projects worth over N275 billion, and the governor was magnanimous enough to ensure the mobilization of contractors with 40% of the contract sum,” Aniagwu revealed.
The commissioner also stated that the Oborevwori administration had not borrowed any funds but had instead repaid N240 billion in contractual obligations and loans inherited from previous administrations. “Not only is Delta not borrowing under Oborevwori, but he has also cleared substantial debts while funding major projects across the state,” he added.
Aniagwu pointed out that pensioners had not taken to the streets in protest over unpaid benefits, crediting Oborevwori’s fiscal discipline for the timely settlement of entitlements. He further highlighted a cost-saving measure implemented by the administration, where contractors receiving 40% upfront mobilization had their profit margins reduced, resulting in a savings of N4.5 billion from just five project memos.
On equitable project distribution, Aniagwu stressed that the governor has ensured development across all three senatorial districts, irrespective of political affiliations or ethnic considerations. “Oborevwori is taking on big projects and carrying every part of Delta along, regardless of political differences,” he stated.
Addressing concerns over the alleged defection of some People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aniagwu dismissed the claims, likening them to football transfer windows where underperforming players seek new clubs. “For us in Delta, we are not disturbed. Our focus is on governance, while others may be idle enough to play politics,” he said.
He reiterated that the administration remains committed to delivering democratic dividends, urging critics to assess the government’s projects in their respective local government areas before questioning its performance.
