Delta State Ministry of Primary Education Condemns Alleged Child Defilement at Great Leaders International School
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Ministry of Primary Education has vehemently condemned the alleged defilement of a four-year-old child from Great Leaders International School, located in Ime-Obi, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
The accused perpetrator, Mr. Innocent Ezeukwu, who is also the proprietor of the school, is now under investigation and in custody, according to a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, on behalf of Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, the Commissioner of Primary Education.
The Ministry’s statement expressed shock and outrage at the heinous act, labeling it as both wicked and barbaric. It raised questions about how a person entrusted with the responsibility of educating and nurturing young learners could commit such a dehumanizing crime. The Delta State Police Command has swiftly taken action by apprehending Mr. Ezeukwu, and it is anticipated that he will face severe consequences for his actions, serving as a stern warning to others who might contemplate such transgressions.
Furthermore, the Ministry clarified that Great Leaders International School had long been designated as an unauthorized institution and had been shut down by the State Ministry of Primary Education. Parents were urged to exercise due diligence when choosing educational institutions for their children, enrolling them exclusively in government-approved schools. The State Commissioner for Primary Education had already taken steps to close down the aforementioned school.
In a separate incident, the Delta State Government issued a stern warning to parents, advising them to refrain from taking the law into their own hands when it comes to disputes with teachers over disciplinary matters in schools. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, issued this caution following a tragic event that unfolded at a Public Secondary School in Agbor. A parent had attacked a teacher for disciplining his wayward son, ultimately resulting in the teacher’s tragic demise.
Mr. Oghoro lamented the unfortunate and condemnable incident, as well as another recent occurrence at Ehwerhe Secondary School in Agbarho. In that case, it was alleged that a group of students, led by one Master Oyibo Precious and other students, had been causing disruptions to teachers and fellow students. In response, the school had decided to expel 21 students for their alleged threats against a teacher’s life and disruptive behavior.
The Permanent Secretary’s statement expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the parents of the four students targeted for expulsion. These parents reportedly assaulted a community representative during a confrontation at the school. The Ministry urged parents to refrain from resorting to violence and instead utilize established channels through the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education, the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), and the office of the Chief Inspectors of Education for peaceful dispute resolution with teachers.
