Delta State Issues Stern Warning, As Federal Crackdown on Naira Abuse Intensifies

ASABA/Nigeria: In the wake of heightened raids and prosecutions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) targeting individuals accused of Naira abuse, the Delta State Orientation Bureau urges citizens to steer clear of actions violating Central Bank Act provisions.

Barrister Latimore Oghenesivbe, CEO of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, underscored the EFCC’s vigorous enforcement efforts, stating that the commission’s task force on Naira abuse is actively deploying strategies to safeguard the national currency’s integrity.

Highlighting various forms of Naira abuse prohibited by the CBN Act of 2007, including currency spraying, defacing, and mutilation, Oghenesivbe emphasized the urgency of citizen awareness to prevent legal infractions. He stressed that ignorance of the law offers no defense in civil or criminal matters.

Oghenesivbe commended the EFCC’s recent convictions and ongoing prosecutions nationwide, citing the urgency of halting Naira abuse. Notably, figures like Mr. Pascal Okechukwu, known as Cubana Chief Priest, are among over 200 individuals facing prosecution.

“It is evident that the federal government is resolute in curbing Naira abuse,” Oghenesivbe affirmed. “The EFCC’s specialized task force is actively pursuing offenders, and Delta State urges compliance to avoid legal consequences.”

Underlining the state’s commitment to peace and development under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership, Oghenesivbe emphasized the imperative of lawfulness, emphasizing that Delta State has nothing to gain from its citizens’ legal entanglements.

“We must cease all forms of Naira abuse to evade arrest and prosecution,” Oghenesivbe concluded, urging citizens to uphold the integrity of the national currency in alignment with the state’s development agenda.
