ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, emphasized the importance of practitioners ensuring robust and credible reportage while addressing the Executive of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, Delta State chapter. The Speaker made these remarks on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, during a meeting with three separate bodies at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba.
The Speaker, advised media handlers to maintain objectivity in their reportage by ensuring a balanced approach and conducting thorough investigations before publishing. He assured the media that his leadership in the Assembly would not stifle press freedom, describing the 8th Assembly as “Media-friendly.”
Speaking to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Asaba management, he challenged media practitioners in the State to uphold professional integrity in their role as watchdogs of society. He expressed the Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with the media in driving growth and development in the State, urging them to align with the government’s vision for progress.
He told the Executive of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, Delta State chapter, the Speaker reiterated the need for practitioners to consistently deliver robust and credible reporting. He particularly emphasized the importance of objectivity, balanced reporting, and thorough investigations. Guwor assured that the Assembly would not suppress the press.
In response to the remarks made by the State Working Committee of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), Delta State chapter, the Speaker expressed hope that the 8th Assembly, composed of dedicated lawmakers, would enact legislation that benefits the people of Delta State. Guwor welcomed partnership opportunities with the medical practitioners if they served the public interest and contributed to the state’s development. He praised the Medical Practitioners for their service to humanity and affirmed the government’s commitment to the well-being of the people.
During the visits, the delegations congratulated the Speaker on his appointment and assured him of their organizations’ commitment to fostering robust synergy and partnership with the Delta State House of Assembly. The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowhowho, the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, and several members of the state legislature were present during the visits, which included the exchange of gifts with the visiting bodies.
