Delta State House of Assembly Marks Year of Legislative Achievements With 18 Passed Bills

ASABA/Nigeria: Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has celebrated the House’s notable achievements over the past year.

The Speaker, speaking during a commemorative Press Briefing at the Assembly Chapel in Asaba, to mark the first anniversary of the Eighth Assembly, stated that the Assembly has achieved in terms it’s Legislative functions and its oversight duties.

He noted that the House reviewed 18 bills, passing several significant pieces of legislation awaiting assent, including the Delta State Merit Award Bill, Delta State Social Investment Programme Bill, and Delta State Persons with Disability Bill.

Emphasizing the Assembly’s dedication to its legislative, representative, and oversight roles. “The bills are intended to positively impact Deltans in several ways,”

He further highlighted the drafting and adoption of the 8th Legislative Agenda, which aligns with the current administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

“The journey so far has been one of steady progress, purposeful, and impactful legislative actions,” he remarked.

He also praised the productive collaboration with the Executive and Judicial branches, which has significantly advanced the M.O.R.E Agenda’s implementation. He noted the Assembly’s role in screening and confirming nominees for various state agencies, boards, and commissions, including the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, and Delta State Contributory Health Commission.

“The action of the House in screening and confirming the nominees into these agencies, boards, and commissions is to ensure efficient and effective administration of government in the State.”

Addressing social and security issues, he informed of the Assembly’s motions and resolutions to tackle challenges such as farmland destruction by herdsmen in Abraka and initiatives to ban styrofoam use for food packaging.

Regarding the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS), he  assured that the state government is implementing the new salary structure without arrears to Assembly staff.

The event underscored the Delta State House of Assembly’s commitment to legislative excellence and its readiness to continue serving the people of Delta State in the years to come.
