Delta State Governor Urges Political Appointees to Help People Amidst Economic Hardship
ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State, Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori called on political appointees to maintain close connections with the citizens, visit their homes regularly, and extend assistance to them. The Governor emphasized that the removal of fuel subsidy has led to economic hardship, making it crucial for officials to support those in need.
Addressing the 9 Special Advisers who were sworn in during the event, Governor Oborevwori reminded them that they were first politicians before assuming their current positions. He stressed the significance of understanding the challenges faced by the people and finding ways to address them effectively.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted the prevailing harsh economic environment, characterized by the removal of fuel subsidy and the subsequent increase in petrol prices. He acknowledged the difficulties many families are facing due to the devaluation of the naira against the dollar. Urging the appointees to be compassionate, he encouraged them to assist the less privileged and vulnerable in society with the resources at their disposal.
“We may not be able to solve everybody’s problem, but we can always start somewhere. That way, we will be living up to our calling as public servants,” Governor Oborevwori asserted.
Furthermore, the Governor called upon the newly appointed Special Advisers to devise innovative solutions to address social challenges and align their efforts with the strategic goals of his administration’s policy agenda. He praised their track records of performance, loyalty, and leadership qualities, urging them to continue their dedicated service.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that Special Advisers play a vital role in the democratic dispensation and are chosen for their expertise, maturity, and ability to navigate bureaucracy to implement the administration’s policies. He urged the appointees to familiarize themselves with the MORE Agenda, a key policy framework of the government, and devise practical and measurable initiatives in line with its objectives.
Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori speaking on behalf of the newly appointed Special Advisers, expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the opportunity to serve. He pledged unwavering loyalty and commitment to the M.O.R.E Agenda, aimed at advancing Delta State.
The ceremony, graced by various government officials and dignitaries, highlighted the commitment of the government to address youth unemployment, cybercrime, environmental sanitation, insecurity, and inter-ethnic tensions in the state.
