Delta State Governor Urges Church to Continue Praying for National Upliftment and Stability
OLEH/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, has fervently appealed to the church to persist in its prayers for the advancement of the nation, emphasizing that Nigeria is in dire need of peace, unity, stability, and development.
Governor Oborevwori conveyed this impassioned plea during his goodwill message at the Oleh Diocese Council of Knights Statutory Meeting. The meeting, which took place in Olomoro, Isoko South local government area, hosted by Hon (Chief) Ferguson Onwo, KSC, the immediate past Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly.
Affirming the spiritual foundation of his administration, Governor Oborevwori reassured the public that his governance is divinely guided. “Our administration is anchored by God, and we are committed to staying on course, in alignment with His will,” the Governor declared.
Representing the Governor at the gathering, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, the Senior Policy Adviser to the state government, emphasized that Governor Oborevwori’s intimate knowledge of the state and its citizens will undoubtedly contribute to effective and equitable governance as he embarks on his tenure as the leader of Delta state.
The Governor iterated his administration’s commitment to equitable distribution of infrastructure based on regional peculiarities, and he underscored the importance of collaboration with all stakeholders in the Delta State Project.
Governor Oborevwori took a moment to extend his gratitude to Hon Ferguson Onwo for his dedicated service to the people. Furthermore, he affirmed that the Delta State Government will continue to join forces with the church to foster the advancement of religious activities.
Addressing the spiritual leaders present, Governor Oborevwori urged preachers of the gospel to abstain from political messaging and to focus on delivering unwavering truths from the sacred pulpit. “The pulpit is a place of sanctity, where inspirational messages should emanate, contributing to the promotion of virtuous leadership in society,” he emphasized.
The Governor stressed that the ultimate role of government is to ensure the well-being and happiness of the populace. He called for a collective effort in achieving this objective and expressed confidence in the church’s pivotal role in cultivating happiness and positivity within society.
The meeting was also an occasion for Hon Ferguson Onwo to express his gratitude for the opportunity to host the Council of Knights. As a representative of Isoko South in the State Assembly, Onwo voiced his pride in being a Knight and affirmed his unwavering dedication to the church and its undertakings.
Sir Benjamin Ogbalor, the President of the Oleh Diocese Council of Knights, praised Hon Onwo for exemplifying the church’s values and serving as a commendable ambassador. Ogbalor outlined the council’s vision of enhancing spiritual, physical, and mental well-being, and announced initiatives such as a School of Nursing and plans for a University and a Health Insurance Scheme.
Representing the Anglican Communion’s Oleh Diocese, Ven Peter Efi, Chaplain in the diocese, reiterated the importance of Christians living a faith-driven life, both privately and publicly. He acknowledged the challenging times in Nigeria and encouraged individuals to turn to Christ for salvation, while also offering prayers for the nation, the state, and their leaders.
Amidst the proceedings, a fundraising effort was undertaken to support various initiatives.
