Delta State Governor Tasks Task Force to Demolish Illegal Structures on Government Lands
ASABA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged members of the state’s task force on the recovery of government lands to demolish all illegal structures on such lands. The governor made this known while inaugurating the committee in Asaba, where he was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA.
The governor highlighted the urgent need for action, citing reports of widespread and flagrant violation of Federal, State, and Local Government lands across the State by land speculators. He expressed concern over the dispossessions of citizens of their hard-earned assets by land grabbers, including deep incursions into the boundaries of long-established educational institutions in the State, and Government Joint Venture Schemes.
“These actions constitute a prescription for disorder and anarchy,” Governor Oborevwori remarked. “More importantly, it does great damage to the implementation of the development plans of our towns and cities.”
To address these issues, the governor announced the mandates of the task force: to recover government land and property, demolish illegal structures erected on the land/property, make recommendations for the prevention of such acts, and implement all other directives bearing on the matter as given by Government from time to time.
The committee, which is expected to commence work immediately, is chaired by Mr. Frank Omare, with members including Hon. David Tonwe, Mr. Emmanuel Chinye, Hon. Jaro Egbo, and Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, among others. Mr. Chukwuka Imarhia will serve as member cum Secretary of the task force.
In response, Mr. Frank Omare thanked Governor Oborevwori for finding members of the task force fit to carry out the job of recovering government land and assured him and all Deltans that they will carry out their functions diligently.
The event was witnessed by notable dignitaries including Commissioner for Information in the state, Dr. Michael Osuoza, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Johnson Erijo, the Secretary to Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, and other senior government officials.
Governor Oborevwori’s decisive action through the task force underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use and management of land resources for sustainable development in Delta State.
