Delta State Governor Oborevwori Receives Good Governance Award from Urhobo Association
ABUJA/Nigeria: The Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honored with the Good Governance Award by the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation. The glamorous ceremony took place at the Pauline Tallen Banquet Hall, Women Development Centre, Abuja.
The award was presented to Governor Oborevwori by Senator Ede Dafinone, the Grand Patron of the Association and Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the 10th Senate. This accolade recognizes the governor’s achievements in mega infrastructure and socioeconomic development since taking office on May 29 of the previous year.
Senator Dafinone commended the governor for the ongoing construction of three flyovers at DSC Roundabout, PTI Junction, Effurun Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction, as well as other projects across the state. He noted the significance of having Julius Berger Nigeria Plc handling these major projects and urged the governor to ensure similar developments across all three senatorial districts.
Addressing the economic challenges inherited by President Bola Tinubu, Senator Dafinone expressed optimism that the current hardships will be short-lived, emphasizing that the long-term benefits of economic reforms will outweigh the present difficulties. He also lauded the Association’s commitment to promoting unity, peace, and development within the Urhobo nation, urging public and private sector support for their initiatives.
Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Executive Assistant on Media, Mr. Igho Akeregha, attributed his success to divine grace, having overcome numerous legal challenges from political detractors. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to building durable infrastructure and highlighted the engagement of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for ongoing mega projects, including flyovers, pedestrian bridges, and walkways aimed at easing traffic congestion and fostering economic growth.
Governor Oborevwori detailed the positive outcomes of his MORE agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunity for All Deltans, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. He assured that his administration would prioritize the welfare of the people, ensure equitable development across the three senatorial districts, and maintain open doors for all Deltans.
Expressing gratitude for the award, Governor Oborevwori stated, “I am honored by this recognition from Urhobo Sons and Daughters in the Federal Civil Service and in the Diaspora. As governor for all Deltans, regardless of political affiliation, we shall work together for our state’s advancement. I will continue to prudently manage state resources for the benefit of all Deltans and ensure that Delta State leads in infrastructure and socioeconomic development.”
He pledged ongoing efforts in youth, girl child, and women empowerment, quality healthcare, education, agriculture, and creating a conducive environment for public-private partnerships and Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
The National President of the Association, Mrs. Voke Alimatu Okolakpa, emphasized the group’s efforts to unite Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service in Nigeria and the Diaspora. She assured the governor of the group’s support through prayers and mobilization, revealing plans for members to transfer their Personal Voters Cards to their voting units in Delta State to support good governance in future elections.
The event’s highlight was the investiture of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the Distinguished Grand Patron of the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation and the Diaspora.
