Delta State Governor Inaugurates Environmental Marshals to Tackle Sanitation Crisis
ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has taken a decisive step in combating the state’s sanitation challenges by inaugurating a team of Environmental Marshals and Supervisors. The move comes as a response to the pressing need for cleanliness and environmental sustainability across the region.
During a one-day workshop held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Governor Oborevwori, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, emphasized the crucial role of the marshals in ensuring a clean environment. He charged them to approach their duties with objectivity and to spare no effort in addressing the rampant issues of dirt and poor sanitation plaguing the state.
“The responsibility that you have is a big one,” stated Governor Oborevwori. “There is a need for you to hit the ground running because the entire state is dirty.”
The Governor underscored the importance of integrity and objectivity in executing their duties, urging them not to succumb to manipulation or favoritism. He emphasized the significance of prevention through sensitization, highlighting the need for community involvement and individual responsibility in maintaining cleanliness.
Chief Fidelis Tilije, the Commissioner for Finance, echoed the Governor’s sentiments, emphasizing that sustainable cleanliness is a collective responsibility. He urged the newly appointed marshals to work diligently towards achieving environmental sustainability in the state.
Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, outlined the rigorous recruitment process that led to the selection of 315 qualified individuals out of 18,750 applicants. He emphasized the importance of upholding decorum, transparency, and diligence in carrying out their responsibilities.
“As Environmental Marshals and Supervisors, the aesthetic beauty of our environment must be your priority,” remarked Chief Asiuwhu. “You are expected to uphold a high level of integrity and diligence in carrying out your assignments in the field.”
The workshop, aligned with the MORE Agenda, aimed to equip the marshals with the necessary skills and guidance to tackle the sanitation crisis effectively. Chief Asiuwhu reiterated that any violation of the rules and regulations set forth by the state government would not be condoned, emphasizing the importance of discipline and accountability among the marshals.
As Delta State takes proactive measures to address its sanitation challenges, the inauguration of the Environmental Marshals marks a significant step towards achieving a cleaner and healthier environment for its residents.
