Delta State Governor Hails Okada Ban for Crime Reduction, Pledges Support for Civil Servants

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Tuesday that the ban on motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, for commercial transportation has significantly reduced crime rates in Asaba and its environs.

Governor Oborevwori made this statement while receiving a courtesy visit from the Forum of Female Permanent Secretaries in the state, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininie Oseji.

Expressing satisfaction with the performance of the Permanent Secretaries, Oborevwori encouraged them to continue their dedicated efforts in supporting his MORE agenda. He emphasized the state’s commitment to creating a conducive work environment for civil servants and providing platforms for their training and retraining to enhance productivity.

Highlighting the state’s balanced appointment of Permanent Secretaries, with 23 males and 17 females, Oborevwori assured ongoing collaboration to achieve set goals. “We are trying our best to ensure that our civil servants live a very good life even after retirement,” he said.

Addressing transportation issues in Asaba and Warri, Oborevwori noted the positive impact of the Okada ban on crime reduction. “Initially, I was reluctant, but, today, we thank God for the decision because it is paying off,” he said. He emphasized the need for mass transportation solutions for Deltans, particularly civil servants, while being cautious about state funds.

Governor Oborevwori also expressed his commitment to approving justified training and retraining programs for civil servants, highlighting the importance of continuous professional development.

Dr. Oseji, speaking on behalf of the Forum, praised the Governor for his people-centered projects and the provision of official cars for serving Permanent Secretaries. She described Oborevwori as a role model for his transparent and prudent management of funds and pledged the Forum’s dedication to following his example. Dr. Oseji also appealed to the Governor to revisit the plan for providing adequate accommodation for serving Permanent Secretaries.
