Delta State Governor Extols Sam Omatseye’s Latest Literary Work: ‘Beating All Odds: How Bola Tinubu became President’
ABUJA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has lauded Mr. Sam Omatseye, acclaimed Nigerian Columnist and Chairman of The Nation Newspapers Editorial Board, on the debut of his new book, “Beating All Odds: How Bola Tinubu became President.”
In a speech delivered during the book’s formal launch in Abuja on Tuesday, Governor Oborevwori, represented by the State Information Commissioner, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, hailed Omatseye as a preeminent chronicler of Nigeria’s national narrative, attributing to him the prowess of encapsulating the country’s diverse experiences and existential ethos.
“Sam Omatseye is, without doubt, Nigeria’s most engaging and consistent chronicler of Nigeria’s national experiences, capturing with every offering, the essence and impact of the country’s individual vicissitudes and existential ethos,” Governor Oborevwori remarked.
The Governor further urged fellow journalists and writers to emulate Omatseye’s dedication, advocating for the proliferation of similar literary endeavors as vital contributions to the nation’s evolving democracy.
“We encourage other journalists and writers to take up the challenge of writing similar books as their contributions to the Library of Thought and Information on our growing democracy,” he added.
Commending Omatseye’s contributions to Delta State’s reputation on both national and global platforms, Governor Oborevwori extended felicitations to the author and wished him success in all future undertakings.
The Governor’s remarks were delivered by Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner for Information, during the event attended by notable figures including Vice President Alhaji Kashim Shetima, former Governor of Ogun State Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and former Governor of Delta State Chief James Onanefe Ibori, among others.
During his opening speech, Aremo Olusegun Osoba emphasized the significance of Omatseye’s work, noting that the book sheds light on the arduous journey of Bola Tinubu to the presidency, a narrative deserving of celebration.
In his address, the author, Sam Omatseye, disclosed that the book was inspired by the events and diaries surrounding the 2023 Presidential election, offering insights into the tumultuous path leading to Tinubu’s ascension to power.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Tunji Bello, Azu Ishiekwene, Alex Kabba, and Charles Aniagwu, while the book received a comprehensive review by veteran journalist Louis Odion.
Vice President Kashim Shetima delivered a keynote titled “Sam Omatseye: A Journey to Unearth Truth in the Depths of History,” wherein he hailed Omatseye as a champion of truth and a custodian of Nigeria’s narrative heritage. Shetima commended the author’s courage in confronting uncomfortable truths and celebrated his role as a sentinel for Nigeria’s history.
