ASABA/Nigeria: In a resounding display of commendation and support, Delta State Governor, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended his hearty congratulations to the recently elected State Executive Committee (SEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), an event aptly steered by Comrade Churchill Oyowe.
Governor Oborevwori’s felicitations, was unveiled through an official statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in the heart of Asaba, resonate through the journalistic corridors of the state.
In addition to lauding Comrade Churchill Oyowe’s ascension to the leadership helm, Governor Oborevwori extended his warm regards to the newly elected NUJ State Executive Committee members, including Felix Ekwu, Vice Chairman; Victor Sorokwu, State Secretary; Josephine Omordio, Assistant Secretary; Caroline Ubini, Treasurer; Polycarb Orosevwotu, Financial Secretary; and Celestine Afokobah, Auditor.
The governor, infused with optimism, envisions a promising future under Oyowe’s stewardship. He trusts that Oyowe, an industry veteran who previously served as the State Secretary of the Union, will contribute significantly to the growth and progression of journalism within the state.
Pledging unwavering support to the union, Governor Oborevwori urged the newly appointed NUJ leadership to align with his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda and spearhead journalism’s role in expediting the state’s development.
Moreover, Governor Oborevwori was quick to recognize and appreciate the former State Council, led by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, for their stellar contributions to both the union and the state.
Speaking on behalf of the government and the people of Delta State, the Governor emphasized the significance of this momentous occasion, stating, “Your emergence at this time is significant and momentous in view of your sterling contributions to the growth and development of journalism as a former State Secretary of the Council.”
In a passionate call to action, Governor Oborevwori urged the newly elected NUJ leadership to unite, reaching out to colleagues who may not have secured victory in the elections. He highlighted the ongoing partnership between the state government and the Fourth Estate of the Realm in pursuit of groundbreaking infrastructure development across Delta State.
With deep conviction, Governor Oborevwori asserted, “The NUJ, under your astute leadership, must strive to continue playing the critical role guaranteed by the Constitution as societal watchdogs and agents of good governance and accountability.”
