Delta State Governor Celebrates Year of Achievements, Promises More to Come

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared the past year of his administration a period of significant accomplishments, with promises made and fulfilled. He assured Deltans of even better days ahead in the second year of his tenure.

Addressing the crowd at the State’s Praise and Worship Day, held at the Events Centre in Asaba to mark his administration’s first anniversary, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the strides made under his MORE agenda. “I have kept faith with the people of Delta State,” he said, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transformational development.

A key focus has been on restoring the glory of Warri and its environs. Construction giant Julius Berger is working on three flyovers and a Cloverleaf Interchange in Warri and Effurun. Additionally, the contract for the Warri Township Stadium was terminated and will soon be reawarded to a competent firm to provide a world-class facility for Deltans.

“I promised during the election campaign to address unpaid promotion arrears and pension liabilities. Within three months, we paid over N5.5 billion to 23,887 serving and retired public servants,” Oborevwori noted. His administration also secured legislative approval for a N40 billion loan to settle local government pension arrears, guaranteed by the state government.

Infrastructure projects have progressed significantly, with the reconstruction of Upper and Lower Erejuwa and the Esisi road corridor nearing completion. These projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the urban landscape.

On security, Governor Oborevwori proudly stated, “Delta was adjudged the safest state for oil and gas investments in Nigeria in 2024.” He pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.

The governor highlighted the success of social welfare initiatives, including the MORE Grant Scheme and D-CARES, benefiting thousands of Deltans. “Our social welfare agenda has been boosted with the MORE Grant Scheme, launched a week ago, with over 5,000 beneficiaries,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori praised his predecessors for their support and urged them to continue contributing to the state’s growth. Former CAN President, Papa Ayo Oritsejafor, commended Oborevwori for prioritizing praise and worship, stating, “Prayer takes believers to God’s gate, but praise takes them to His presence.”

In his welcome address, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo, encouraged Deltans to acknowledge and appreciate the progress made under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership.

Reflecting on a year marked by substantial achievements, Governor Oborevwori’s message was clear: Delta State is on a path of continued progress and development.
