Delta State Governor Affirms Commitment to Indigenous Contractors and Foreign Expertise for Key Projects

AGBOR/Nigeria: Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting capable local contractors alongside international ones for crucial endeavors.

The governor stated this during inspection tour of completed and ongoing projects in Ika North-East and Aniocha South Local Government Areas, which included the Faculties of Engineering and Environmental Sciences at the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Owa-Alero Campus, Ute-Okpu – Ute-Enugu Road, and Isheagu – Ewulu Road, Governor Oborevwori lauded the preceding Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating these projects. He emphasized the continuation of ongoing projects and the initiation of new ones.

Governor Oborevwori stated, “This particular road connects all the villages around this area. There is another village down the road called Ewulu; the road will boost commerce in the communities on this route. We are happy with the work done so far. The contractor has assured us that between now and December, the asphalting of the road will be completed.”

He added, “What is left of the work here is 24%; they have done about 76% of the work. The contractor has been fully mobilized and he has assured us that the job will be completed by next month. We are also patronizing Indigenous contractors, and this is one of them that we are using. Looking at the work he has done, we are very satisfied.”

At the UNIDEL Owa-Alero Campus, the Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of work. The Environmental Sciences Faculty consists of two 250-seater capacity theater halls, four 50-seater capacity lecture halls, and four studios. Meanwhile, the Engineering Faculty comprises eight 100-seater capacity halls and another 500-seater capacity hall, all completed and awaiting inauguration.

Governor Oborevwori commended the contractors for their work, stating, “On the Engineering Faculty, I am very happy for all they have done here. The workshop is fully equipped and already in use because they can’t be waiting for me to inaugurate before using it. What is left of the Faculty of Engineering is just to equip the facility. Once that is done, we can come for commissioning. I am very happy with the two different contractors handling the two different projects. One good thing about the Faculty of Environmental Sciences is that all the departments are there in the building. So, I commend the contractor for what they have done.”
