Delta State Government Unveils 2023/2024 Academic Calendar for Schools

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government (DTSG) has unveiled the much-anticipated academic calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year. This comprehensive calendar encompasses both public and private primary and secondary schools within the state, providing crucial dates and schedules for the upcoming academic session.

According to Mr. Augustine Oghoro, the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the new academic session will kick off with boarders resuming for the 14-week duration of the First Term on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Classes are scheduled to commence the following day, Monday, September 11, 2023.

The statement goes on to outline important dates for the First Term, including the Mid Term Break set for Thursday, October 26, to Friday, October 27, 2023, and the First Term Examination, which is slated to commence on Monday, December 11, and conclude on Friday, December 15, 2023. Subsequently, the First Term will see a three-week holiday starting on Friday, December 15, 2023, and ending on January 7, 2024.

Moving into the Second Term of the academic session, the 12-week duration is scheduled to commence with boarders resuming on Sunday, January 7, 2024, and classes beginning on Monday, January 8, 2024. The Mid Term Break for the Second Term will take place from Thursday, February 15, to Friday, February 16, 2024, with the Second Term Examination scheduled for Thursday, March 21, to Thursday, March 28, 2024. A three-week holiday will follow, spanning from Thursday, March 28, to Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Similarly, the Third Term of the 2023/2024 Academic Session is set to begin on Sunday, April 21, 2024, with boarders resuming and classes commencing on Monday, April 22, 2024. Mid Term Break for this term will be observed from Monday, June 3, to Friday, June 7, 2024. The Third Term Promotion Examinations are scheduled for Monday, July 15, to Friday, July 19, 2024, and the Third Term holiday will span eight weeks, starting from Friday, July 19, to Sunday, September 15, 2024.

In addition to these term schedules, the statement also mentions the dates for important examinations. The 2023/2024 Cognitive/Placement Examination is set to be conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2024, and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled to take place from Monday, June 3, to Friday, June 7, 2024.

The Delta State Government has advised parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards are adequately prepared for the resumption of the First Term on Monday, September 11, 2023. These dates and schedules provide a clear roadmap for the academic year ahead, ensuring that students and educators can plan and prepare accordingly.
