Delta State Government to Reconstruct Okirighwre-Benin Road, Other Sapele Roads

SAPELE/Nigeria: The Delta State Government announced plans on Monday to reconstruct the deteriorated Okirighwre-Benin Road and several other internal roads in Sapele, aiming to improve traffic flow and ease the burden on motorists in the area.

Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), revealed these plans to journalists following an inspection tour of the road. Accompanying him were the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon. Bright Abeke, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon.

Aniagwu emphasized Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s concern over the challenging conditions faced by motorists on the Okirighwre-Benin Road. He noted that the governor is committed to addressing the issue promptly.

“His Excellency, the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has a comprehensive understanding of the road conditions across Delta State. Upon receiving reports about the dire state of this particular stretch, he instructed me to assess the situation and initiate immediate action to rehabilitate the road,” Aniagwu said.

The roads slated for reconstruction include Shell Road Extension, Eseimoni Street and surrounding areas, Major Bowen Road, and Benin Road by GKM.

Aniagwu assured that the Okirighwre-Benin Road would not only be made motorable but fully reconstructed. He added that a competent contractor would be engaged to ensure efficient and effective execution of the project.

“This initiative is part of the urban renewal plan by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, aimed at beautifying our cities and facilitating smooth commuting for our residents,” Aniagwu stated. He also highlighted the strong collaboration between the government and the PDP.

PDP State Chairman Olorogun Kingsley Esiso praised Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to developing Sapele and other parts of Delta State. He commended the governor’s achievements within his first year in office.

“I appreciate our Governor for his proactive measures. The state of this road has been a significant concern, and this intervention will bring much-needed relief to our people,” Esiso remarked. “The PDP is proud of the governor’s accomplishments, which reflect positively on our party.”

Hon. Bright Abeke, Chairman of Sapele Local Government, expressed optimism about the upcoming road projects. He highlighted ongoing works on Hardock Road and reassured residents that the governor’s efforts would soon yield tangible improvements.

“The people of Sapele will be pleased with these developments. Temporary measures are no longer our focus; we are now aiming for permanent solutions,” Abeke declared. “Within the next three months, the residents of Sapele will witness significant progress.”

The collaborative efforts of the Delta State Government and the PDP underscore their commitment to enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents across the state.
