Delta State Government Pledges Enhanced Collaboration with Online Media Platforms

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to bolster transparency and widen the dissemination of information regarding its activities to Deltans, the Delta State Government has pledged to intensify its engagement with online media platforms. This commitment was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, during a meeting with a delegation from the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) in Asaba today.

Dr. Osuoza emphasized the pivotal role played by online media outfits in promptly reporting the government’s activities, highlighting the speed and efficiency with which they deliver news to the public. Expressing satisfaction with their reportage, he assured the delegation of his willingness to involve them closely in his official duties.

The Commissioner urged online publishers to maintain accuracy and integrity in their reporting, offering his availability for clarifications on any issue before publication. He stressed the importance of preventing misinformation, which could undermine the credibility of their platforms and erode public trust.

In his remarks, Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli, Chairman of the Delta Online Publishers Forum, extended congratulations to Dr. Osuoza on his appointment as Information Commissioner. Recognizing his past role as the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, he commended Osuoza’s competence and experience in the field.

The Chairman raised concerns about the perceived marginalization of online media in the state and urged the Commissioner to address this issue. He emphasized the importance of online newspapers as significant contributors to the media landscape, deserving equitable recognition and support from the government.

Highlighting the Forum’s membership of over 40 reputable platforms with legal rights to operate in Nigeria, he proposed a retainership arrangement with the state government, stating that such an arrangement, akin to those enjoyed by national electronic and print media houses, would enable effective reporting on the progress of the Oborevwori administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

The meeting underscored the mutual desire for collaboration between the Delta State Government and online media platforms, signaling a potential shift towards greater inclusivity and transparency in information dissemination. As both parties seek to strengthen their partnership, the prospects for enhanced public engagement and awareness in Delta State appear promising.
