Delta State Government Grants COMTOA Authority Over Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operations
ASABA/Nigeria: The State Government of Delta has sanctioned the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA) with expansive powers to oversee and regulate the activities of all commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators within the state.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), COMTOA has been granted the mandate to organize, coordinate, and supervise the operations of these transport sectors. Effective from Monday, 8th January 2024, COMTOA will assume responsibility for managing and collecting levies from both motorcycle and tricycle riders.
The statement released by Dr. Emu also outlined additional responsibilities entrusted to COMTOA. They are authorized to ensure adherence to the prescribed Delta state color scheme for tricycles. Furthermore, the association is empowered to apprehend and take action against violators found operating motorcycles in the restricted areas of Asaba, Effurun, and Warri.
In a bid to regulate operational timings, the directive mandates strict compliance from motorcycle and tricycle riders. Unrestricted areas will observe operating hours from 6 am to 8 pm for motorcycles and extend to 10 pm for tricycle riders. This measure aims to streamline the activities of these transportation modes and ensure conformity with prescribed regulations.
The move signifies a significant shift in the governance of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operations in Delta State, placing COMTOA at the forefront of regulatory and organizational responsibilities within the transport sector.
