Delta State Enjoys Peace and Progress Without Borrowing, Says Governor Oborevwori

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Sunday that the state has experienced peace and progress over the past year without resorting to borrowing.

He made this statement during the 1st Anniversary thanksgiving service of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 34 Headquarters, Unity Model Parish, Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the state’s impressive strides in both infrastructural and human capital development despite the challenging economic conditions facing Nigeria.

“God has been faithful in the affairs of the state. People who live outside this state don’t know what we are enjoying; we are enjoying peace and progress,” he stated. “There is also abundance. For us to be in these hard times in Nigeria, Delta State has not borrowed in the last year.”

He praised the State House of Assembly members, noting, “You can see that members of the State House of Assembly are shining. I have told them that whatever other states are doing and we are not doing, we will do it for them because they are great partners in the administration of the state.”

The governor urged the Assembly members to continue serving with the fear of God, expressing confidence that God would bless the state to become one of Nigeria’s best.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, thanked God for His mercy over the Assembly members and celebrated the one-year anniversary of the 8th Assembly, inaugurated on June 13, 2023. “Governor Oborevwori understands perfectly the workings of the State House of Assembly, hence we have enjoyed a robust partnership with the Executive,” Guwor said. He commended the cooperation among Assembly members and their support.

The Speaker also praised Deltans for electing capable representatives, noting that the Assembly had received 18 bills, with nine passed and three already assented to. He assured the public that the Assembly would continue to serve with dedication and not let them down.

Pastor Olufemi Olumide of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Asaba, delivered a sermon emphasizing the importance of thanksgiving in opening all doors. He commended the 8th Assembly for their gratitude, stating that the occasion symbolized a new beginning and placed Christ at the center of the state’s affairs.

The thanksgiving service was attended by several dignitaries, including the wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, immediate past Deputy Governor Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Kingsley Esiso, and members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi and Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi.

Also present were State Chief Judge Hon. Justice Theresa Diai, High Chief Tunde Smooth, MD of Tantita Security Services Chief Keston Pondi, and HRM Maj-Gen Felix Mujakperuo Orhue I, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council.
