Delta State Education Commissioner Advocates for Media Collaboration to Promote MORE Agenda
ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has emphasized the need for greater collaboration between media organizations and her office to enhance coverage of the administration’s various programs, initiatives, and objectives, particularly in alignment with the MORE Agenda.
Mrs. Ezewu made this appeal on Thursday, August 22, 2024, during the monthly Congress of the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), where she was represented by her media aide, Mr. Jude Bruno, on the platform “ICC Mirror” in Asaba, the state capital.
Bruno, conveying the Commissioner’s strong stance against corruption, announced that contractors would soon be mobilized to commence ongoing projects. He stated, “As soon as that starts, the media will be visiting the sites to see what the ministry is doing and to assess the level of work being done by the contractors.”
He encouraged the members of the Chapel to reach out to Mrs. Ezewu whenever her insights are needed, underscoring that the Commissioner values the media and its practitioners. “She has asked me to tell you that we will continue to work together. It is not only during troubles that we should come together,” he said, noting that the Commissioner would have preferred to attend in person but was attending to other commitments, including a visit from the President’s wife, Remi Tinubu.
Bruno also stressed the importance of balanced reporting to avoid creating unnecessary tension in the state and the nation. He commended the media for holding public officials accountable while urging for constructive criticism rather than destructive comments or blackmail.
In addition, he highlighted Mrs. Ezewu’s philanthropic efforts, revealing that she currently supports over 25 students in both higher institutions and secondary schools, covering their tuition fees. “About eight of them are in the university. The teacher who recently passed away had his children placed on her scholarship,” he noted, describing her as a compassionate and detribalized leader dedicated to the welfare of her community.
This call for collaboration aims to strengthen the relationship between the education sector and the media, ensuring that the achievements and challenges of the MORE Agenda are effectively communicated to the public.
