Delta State Deputy Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Continuity of People-Oriented Policies

ASABA/Nigeria: In a statement affirming the unwavering commitment of the Delta State government to uphold the people-oriented policies initiated by preceding administrations, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has reiterated the administration’s dedication to continuity.

His remarks came during a courtesy visit by members of the Association Of Contributory Retirees, Delta State, led by Comrade Okproma Joseph, held on Thursday in Asaba.

“This government is not a government that came in to condemn what the previous governments have done for our people,” stated Onyeme. “We are a government that believes in continuity and so, all the projects and policies of the previous governments that we inherited, we are completing them.”

Highlighting the administration’s focal point, Onyeme emphasized, “We have started quite a few new projects; however, our concentration so far is on the completion of projects that are ongoing, projects that we inherited from previous administrations in our state.”

Expressing gratitude to the retirees for their adherence to due process in addressing their challenges, the Deputy Governor assured them of the government’s intervention to resolve the issues raised.

“I want to thank you for your very peaceful disposition, I want to thank you for being the elders that you are,” he conveyed. “And I want to assure you that this government is a listening government; it is a government that is people-oriented, and whatever we think we can do as a government to alleviate the suffering of our citizens, we will gladly do.”

Earlier in the meeting, Mr. Anthony Osanekwu, Vice Chairman of the Association of Contributory Retirees, voiced the retirees’ concerns, including selective payments by the State Bureau of Pensions, delays in payments after government fund releases, and the refusal to pay bulk sums to retirees on harmonization payments, among others.

Osanekwu appealed to the state government to direct relevant bodies to take necessary actions to alleviate their plights.

The interaction underscored the administration’s pledge to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and collaborate with stakeholders to address pertinent issues affecting the populace.
