Delta State Deputy Governor Assures Measures to Tackle 2023 Flood Threat

ASABA/Nigeria: In response to alarming predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) about the severity of floods in 2023, the Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, has affirmed that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is taking proactive measures to mitigate the potential effects of the impending disaster.

During a courtesy visit by the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), led by retired General Mike Ndubisi, the Deputy Governor reassured the people living in coastal communities that the government is committed to protecting them from the adverse impacts of flooding. He acknowledged the recurring issue of floods affecting Deltans in coastal areas and expressed gratitude for the efforts made by their representative, Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, in highlighting the matter at the national assembly.

Sir Onyeme also seized the opportunity to assure the completion of the multi-billion naira Beneku Bridge, initiated by the previous administration. He further promised the construction of additional roads to improve accessibility and connectivity within the state’s communities.

General Ndubisi, on behalf of the Ndokwa people, expressed their happiness and support for the Deputy Governor, acknowledging his historic appointment as the first person from the region to hold such a high office.

The meeting, attended by prominent figures including members of the Delta State House of Assembly, chairmen of Ndokwa West and Ukwuani Local Government Councils, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, emphasized the importance of united efforts to safeguard the region from the anticipated flood disaster in 2023.
