Delta State Communication Workshop Closes with Call for Media Excellence

ASABA/Nigeria: The 5th edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop, themed “Advancing Delta: Strategies for Public Communication and Effective Media Engagement,” concluded on Thursday with a resounding call for media practitioners to embrace excellence, ethics, and innovation in their craft.
Held over three days, the workshop provided participants with invaluable insights into the evolving media landscape and equipped them with tools to enhance public communication. Facilitators, including renowned experts in communication and governance, underscored the pivotal role of the media in shaping public opinion and driving societal progress.
The State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Political and Security Services, Mr. Chucks Aguonye, commended the facilitators for enriching media professionals with practical knowledge and experience. He charged participants to leverage their newfound skills to foster effective media engagements that showcase the achievements of the Delta State Government. “The art of communication is the language of leadership,” he noted, emphasizing the media’s role as a bridge between the government and the people.
Dr. Barry Gbe, Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, lauded the state government for its commitment to empowering journalists through training. He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to enhance public communication and media engagement, thereby contributing to the advancement of Delta State.
In his closing remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, highlighted the workshop’s significance as a platform for capacity-building among media professionals. He encouraged participants to utilize the training to effectively report on the government’s activities and achievements. Dr. Emu also praised the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, for his dedication and resilience in promoting the governor’s vision.
Participants expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government for its investment in media capacity-building. They commended the facilitators and organizers for providing them with modern tools and strategies to enhance their roles in communicating government policies and programs effectively.
The workshop has reaffirmed the media’s role as a critical partner in governance, driving transparency, accountability, and progress for Delta State.
