Following the fulfillment of the pledge, athletes have begun receiving their cash incentives, marking a significant boost to morale across the sports community.
According to a statement from Mrs. Franka Okonma, Director of Public Relations at the Delta State Sports Commission in Asaba, the payments have been confirmed by Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for honoring the financial commitment promptly, describing it as a testament to the governor’s steadfast support for sports development in the state.
Chairman Oborevwori emphasized that these payments underscore Governor Oborevwori’s “MORE Agenda,” aimed at fostering comprehensive development, equal opportunities, and enhanced welfare for all Delta State residents, particularly athletes.
“This payment reaffirms Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to sports and his commitment to ensuring the well-being of our athletes,” stated Chairman Oborevwori. “It serves as a clear demonstration of his administration’s unwavering support for sports development.”
Athletes, who had eagerly awaited the fulfillment of these promises, expressed their gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to their welfare and for motivating them ahead of future competitions. They pledged to uphold Delta State’s legacy as champions and are determined to defend their title at the upcoming 2024 National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State next month.
