Delta State Assembly Passes 2025 Appropriation Bill, Increasing Budget to ₦979.2 Billion
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill, increasing the budget size from ₦936.1 billion initially proposed by Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to ₦979.2 billion. Dubbed the “Budget of Fiscal Consolidation,” the revised budget reflects adjustments in both recurrent and capital expenditures.
According to the Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon Maryln Okowa-Daramola, the recurrent expenditure was marginally amended from ₦348.717 billion to ₦348.767 billion, representing an increase of ₦50 million or 0.014%. Meanwhile, the capital expenditure received a substantial boost, rising from ₦587.361 billion to ₦630.461 billion, an increase of ₦43.1 billion or 7.34%.
Hon Okowa-Daramola, who represents Ika North East Constituency, presented her committee’s report during the plenary session, which prompted the lawmakers to dissolve into a Committee of Supply chaired by Speaker Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor. The committee scrutinised and adopted the proposed amendments across various sections of the bill.
Announcing the final figures, Okowa-Daramola stated: “Mr Speaker, after a critical examination of all the recommendations received from sub-committees, the Finance and Appropriations Committee recommends that the House consider and pass the sum of ₦348,767,758,635 as approved appropriation for recurrent expenditure, and ₦630,461,060,084 as approved appropriation for capital expenditure.” She further emphasised the need for effective monitoring to ensure the budget’s successful implementation, underscoring its alignment with the policy goals of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE agenda.
The appropriation bill was read a third time and unanimously passed by the lawmakers in a voice vote. Speaker Guwor lauded the passage as a critical step towards advancing development across Delta State. “This achievement underscores the Legislature’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and prosperity of our people,” he remarked.
Guwor commended the Finance and Appropriation Committee and sub-committees for their diligent efforts in reviewing the financial plan, as well as the lawmakers for their dedication. He reaffirmed the House’s resolve to synergise with the Executive to deliver the dividends of democracy to Deltans.
Tuesday’s plenary session was attended by leaders of the 25 local government councils’ legislative arms in Delta State, marking the occasion as a demonstration of collaborative governance aimed at driving progress and sustainability in the state.
