Delta Sports Secretaries Honour Delta Sports Commission Director-General with Leadership Award
ASABA/Nigeria: The Sports Secretaries of the Delta State Sports Commission (SOSA) paid a solidarity visit to the Director-General of the Commission, Mr Festus Ohwojero, on Friday, 1st November 2024, at his office in Asaba, the state capital.
The group, which advocates for the welfare of athletes and officials within the Sports Commission, gathered to express their admiration and appreciation for Mr Ohwojero’s commitment to sports excellence and athlete welfare under his leadership.
During the visit, SOSA members praised Delta State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, for his support and applauded Mr Ohwojero’s impressive achievements since his appointment, especially his efforts during key events like the 2024 National Youth Games.
The association presented a plaque to Mr Ohwojero as a mark of their recognition of his inclusive leadership, innovation, and steadfast dedication to advancing sports in Delta State.
Presenting the award, Emmanuel Siantebe, chairman of SOSA, commended the Director-General’s leadership, describing it as “unmatched.” He emphasised that the plaque represented the association’s appreciation for Mr Ohwojero’s efforts in fostering an inclusive and forward-looking sports culture across the state.
In his response, Mr Ohwojero received the award with gratitude, attributing the honour to the diligent work of his team at the Sports Commission. He expressed deep appreciation for Governor Oborevwori, highlighting that the governor’s prompt approvals and timely release of funds had been instrumental in the successful hosting of the 8th National Youth Games at Asaba Township Stadium.
“This award is not just a personal honour but a reflection of the collective dedication of our team, with guidance and support from His Excellency, who has continually shown his passion for Delta’s sports development,” he stated.
Mr Ohwojero further pledged to address the issues raised by SOSA and reaffirmed his commitment to elevating sports in Delta State. “If not for His Excellency, I don’t believe the management could have achieved these milestones,” he noted, adding that the governor’s actions demonstrate a deep commitment to his M.O.R.E. agenda, aimed at driving meaningful development in Delta.
He concluded by thanking SOSA for their solidarity and said the recognition would inspire him to further strengthen Delta’s sporting achievements during his tenure.
