ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has expressed his delight following the third reading and passage of the Delta State Human Trafficking Prohibition Bill 2024 during Wednesday’s plenary.
Presiding over the session, Rt Hon Guwor hailed the passage of the bill as a crucial step in the state’s ongoing fight against human trafficking. He commended the members of the Assembly for their unwavering dedication to addressing the issue, which continues to threaten the safety and dignity of vulnerable citizens.
“I deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of my colleagues in ensuring this landmark bill was passed,” Guwor stated. He also extended gratitude to stakeholders and experts who played pivotal roles in shaping and scrutinising the bill. “Their collective commitment and unanimous support were instrumental in making this achievement possible.”
The Speaker further emphasised the significance of robust legislation in safeguarding vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, from exploitation and abuse. He expressed confidence that the bill, once enacted, would help protect these individuals from the horrors of human trafficking.
Looking ahead, Rt Hon Guwor stressed the importance of ensuring the bill’s effective implementation, calling for close collaboration between relevant agencies and organisations to establish strong mechanisms for reporting, investigating, and prosecuting trafficking offences.
“At our plenary, we took a bold step towards safeguarding our citizens from the scourge of human trafficking. I commend members for their unwavering support and dedication to this cause,” Guwor remarked in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nkem Nwaeke.
He concluded by reiterating the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that laws passed translate into tangible, positive changes for the people of Delta State.
