Delta Speaker Dismisses Defection Rumors, Reaffirms PDP Lawmakers’ Loyalty

ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has dismissed as baseless a media report suggesting that ten lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to concerns raised by House Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi during Tuesday’s plenary session, Guwor urged Deltans, particularly PDP supporters, to disregard the speculation, which he described as an attempt to stir political tension in the state.

He reaffirmed that all 22 PDP lawmakers in the House remain steadfastly loyal to the party and its leadership, stressing that there is no justification for such rumors given the widespread satisfaction with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

“The rumor peddler is daydreaming. He is in his own world. PDP in Delta State is strong and intact. Deltans are happy with the MORE agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” Guwor stated, emphasizing the governor’s commitment to infrastructural and economic development.

The Speaker, however, extended an open invitation to members of opposition parties willing to join the PDP, noting that the party remains accommodating to all.

Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, speaking under the item “Statement By The Leader Of The House” in Tuesday’s plenary order paper, also debunked the defection claim, labeling it false and politically motivated.

He accused an APC leader in the state of orchestrating the rumor, asserting that, contrary to the report, five out of the seven APC lawmakers in the House were, in fact, considering defection to the PDP.

Nwaobi reaffirmed that all 22 PDP legislators remain resolutely committed to the party and will not be distracted by baseless speculations.
