ABOH/Nigeria: In a grand display of unity and pageantry, prominent Delta State politician Chief Godwill Obielum on Saturday laid his mother, Mrs Victoria Ossai Obielum, to rest in a ceremony that drew a cross-section of dignitaries from political, religious, and community spheres.
The burial, held at Chief Obielum’s residence in Ushie, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, was attended by Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, and former Governor Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. Other notable attendees included Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodiko of Isoko Federal Constituency, and Hon. Victor Nwokolo of Ika Federal Constituency.
The ceremony also saw the presence of Senator Ighoyota Amori, a national officer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Emma Ogidi, former PDP Chairman, and Gen. Mike Ndbuisi, President General of Ndokwa Neku Union. Other notable figures included Delta State Head of Service Mr Reginald Bayoko, Prof. Chike Okolocha, Sir Fidelis Tilije, Barr. Sam Osasa, and Chief Festus Ochonogor.
Retired Assistant Inspectors-General of Police Uche and Akpan Fafoworo, Chief Edwin Uzor, Elder Moses Iduh, Hon. Smart Meka, and Sir Felix Gbagi also graced the occasion, alongside community leaders and members of the Delta State Executive Council.
In an open-air funeral service themed “What Will You Be Remembered For?” Pastor Ifeanyi Ogude of Heaven Bound Christian International Ministry delivered a poignant message on the brevity of life and the enduring impact of a good name. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 7:1, he emphasized that a good name, reflecting integrity and kindness, holds greater value than material wealth.
Citing the story of Dorcas in Acts 9:36-42, Pastor Ogude highlighted the power of good deeds, reminding the congregation that Dorcas was resurrected by Apostle Peter because of the love and kindness she had shown. He urged Christians to emulate her example by fostering compassion and maintaining a legacy of integrity.
Prayers were offered for the Obielum family, as mourners paid their respects to the matriarch whose life was celebrated with dignity and honour. The event stood as a testament to the strong bonds of community and faith shared by the people of Delta State.
