Delta Police Special Team Arrests Kidnappers, Gun Runners, Recovers Arms

ASABA/Nigeria: Operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) have made significant breakthroughs in the fight against violent crime in Delta State, arresting suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, and gun runners while recovering multiple firearms and ammunition.

The arrests, which took place across Delta, Rivers, and Kogi states, were confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright.

According to the statement, on March 26, 2025, CP-SAT operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, tracked down a notorious kidnap suspect, Chedeye Mohammed, in Rivers State. During interrogation, the suspect led police to a hideout near a trailer park, where an AK-47 rifle loaded with thirteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered. Investigations revealed that Mohammed and his gang were responsible for kidnappings in Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of Delta State before relocating to Rivers to evade capture. Efforts to apprehend his accomplices are ongoing.

In another operation, CP-SAT operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Anyangba town in Kogi State and arrested three suspected armed robbers and gunrunners: Zakari Mohammed, Ibrahim Mumuni, and Mohammed Hamisu. A search of their residences led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and an automatic pump-action gun. Further interrogation led to the arrest of Samaila Mohammed, who was found in possession of a Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges.

Additionally, the police team apprehended a suspected arms dealer, Emu Lucky, in Olomoro, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State. The 35-year-old suspect was found in possession of 82 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Investigations revealed that he was working with a suspected kidnap kingpin, Mohammed Bello, who is already in custody. Bello allegedly acted as a middleman, supplying ammunition to criminal gangs.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their efforts and assured residents of Delta State that security operations would be intensified to curb criminal activities. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safer environment for all.
