Delta Police Command Assures Residents of a Safe Yuletide with Massive Security Deployment
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has assured residents of the state of a secure and peaceful Christmas celebration, with extensive security measures in place to guarantee safety during the festive season. Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, announced a strategic deployment of personnel across Delta State to safeguard lives, properties, and public activities before, during, and after the celebrations.
CP Abaniwonda emphasized the need for vigilance and directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to deploy officers to celebration venues, recreational centers, and other key locations to prevent any disruptions. “We are committed to ensuring that Deltans enjoy the Yuletide without fear. All law-abiding citizens can go about their celebrations with confidence,” he said.
To bolster the state’s security, specialized patrol teams have been dispatched to strategic locations, including the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge, Anwai Campus to Illah, and Asaba-Kwale/Ughelli roads. Other teams are patrolling the Asaba-Agbor expressway, Abraka-Eku road, and critical routes in Warri and its environs. Areas within the Asaba metropolis, such as Summit Junction, Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, Federal Medical Center Roundabout, and Government House Gate, are under heightened surveillance.
Traffic management is also a priority, with personnel deployed at the busy Onitsha Head Bridge and major junctions in Warri to ensure smooth vehicular movement. DPOs of ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions in Asaba, alongside the State Traffic Officer, are coordinating with other security agencies to prevent congestion and maintain order.
In addition, marine police have been deployed along waterways, particularly in Escravos, Burutu, and Warri, to protect travelers and traders from potential threats posed by sea pirates and illegal bunkerers. The CP has also ordered continuous “Operation Show of Force” exercises across the state, beginning December 22, to underscore the police’s readiness and reassure residents.
The Commissioner urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely information and remaining law-abiding. “Together, we can achieve a crime-free and joyous celebration,” CP Abaniwonda said, reiterating the police’s commitment to safeguarding the state.
