Delta Has Opened More Camps-Uzum

ASABA/Nigeria: The Directorate of State Orientation Agency, has stated that the state government in response to mitigation of the impact of the recent flooding of the state, the government had opened 10 camps for Internally Displaced Persons, IDP to accommodate those displaced by the flood.
The Director General of the Orientation Agency, Bar Eugene Uzum stated this today, October 14, 2022, in Asaba while he was briefing the press on efforts that had been put in place by the state government.
He said various camps are spread across the state, Asaba, Ashaka, Utagba-Ogbe, Ewulu, Ofagbe, Patani, Ashaka, and Isoko axis amongst others, with two more camps being set up by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.
He stated that the camps are being managed by Flood Disaster Management Committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Patrick Ukah.
Mr. Uzum also stated that relief materials distribution centers had also been established close to the displaced person camps, while adequate arrangements had been made for the feeding and health needs of the flood victims in the various camps.
He further pointed out that the statistics of displaced persons were being taken, revealing that there were 2,844 persons in the Ofagbe camp, 298 in Ewulu, 1,539 in Ogbe Afor primary school, Asaba, and 691 persons in Isoko central school, in addition to pregnant women, lactating mothers and Persons With Special Needs, penultimate Friday.
He said the Flood Disaster Management Committee was collaborating with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Office of the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor and the traditional rulers to ensure a seamless evacuation of victims to the camps and their proper coordination.
While stated that the state government is doing all it can to ensure the safety of the people, urged residents of the impacted committees to move to the established camps away from the flooded area.
He However, said this year’s flooding was becoming more challenging than what was experienced in 2012, with more coastal communities in 6 LGAs of Delta North, all the 8 LGAs of Delta South, 5 LGAs in Delta Central and some strategic roads, including a section of the East-West road, being submerged on a daily basis with the increase in rainfall.
