Delta Govt Commits to FG Partnership, Backs NDDC Projects

ABRAKA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has restated his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government for the socio-economic transformation of the state.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, at the inauguration of the reconstructed 9.6km Abraka-Oben Road and the flag-off of the reconstruction of failed portions of the Abraka-Agbor Road (Phase 1) in Ethiope East Local Government Area, the governor emphasized that his government remains dedicated to working with President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the overall development of Delta State.

Oborevwori commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for initiating the reconstruction of the crucial access road and called for the completion of the project to Benin. “I thank the board of the NDDC for their vision in addressing these infrastructural challenges and for providing the necessary policy direction for the execution of this laudable project,” he said.

He reaffirmed Delta State’s belief in the success of the Federal Government, noting that the progress of the nation’s leadership translates into the success of subnational governments. The governor also appreciated President Tinubu’s support for the NDDC board, urging him to sustain efforts in advancing infrastructure development in the Niger Delta region.

Addressing remarks made by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and current representative of the state on the NDDC board, Oborevwori underscored Delta’s significant interventions on federal roads, including the rehabilitation of the Benin-Sapele-Warri Road. “To suggest that Delta State has left everything to the NDDC is a fallacious misrepresentation,” he asserted, highlighting the state’s proactive role in infrastructure development.

He pointed to ongoing interventions on federal roads, including the Ughelli-Asaba dualization project and bridge construction in Warri, as proof of the state’s commitment to improving transportation networks. “Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructure has been recognized by THISDAY/ARISE News and New Telegraph Newspaper, naming him Governor of the Year (Infrastructure),” Izeze noted.

Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, lauded the NDDC for implementing President Tinubu’s directive to commence reconstruction of the Abraka-Oben Road and commended Oborevwori for his strategic interventions on federal roads in the state. He urged governors to collaborate with interventionist agencies rather than view them as competitors.

NDDC Chairman, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, and Managing Director, Chief Sam Ogbuku, both reiterated the commission’s commitment to infrastructural development in the Niger Delta, acknowledging that the NDDC functions as an interventionist agency designed to complement state governments’ efforts. Ogbuku also highlighted the commission’s prior interventions on critical sections of the East-West Road to ease travel difficulties for residents.

The event reaffirmed the synergy between the Delta State Government, the Federal Government, and the NDDC in addressing infrastructural deficits and enhancing road networks for the benefit of the people.
