Delta Govt Approves N1.6bn for Health, Massive Infrastructure Projects in 2025

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government, at its maiden Executive Council (EXCO) meeting for 2025, has approved over N275 billion for the execution of critical projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Presiding over the meeting at Government House, Asaba, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects. The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who briefed the press afterward, described the approvals as historic and a resounding response to critics.
“Governor Oborevwori is not interested in trading words with critics but in delivering tangible projects. Today, we made history in Delta State, approving over N275 billion worth of projects across key sectors,” Aniagwu stated.
Flanked by his counterparts in Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Mr. Reuben Izeze; Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen; Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, and the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, Aniagwu highlighted the governor’s commitment to ensuring financial accountability. He emphasized that 40 percent mobilization had been approved for all projects without additional borrowing.
The Exco approved a wide range of infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Uruagbesa Oria-Abraka Road (Phase 1), Egodo-Ogbeinbene Road, and the Faculty B complex at Southern Delta University, Orerokpe campus. Other major projects include the rehabilitation of the Bomadi-Gbaregolor road, Okpanam Road, and the construction of the Okerenkoko-Pepeama-Kokodiagbene road in Warri South-West.
The state government also approved the remodeling of the Warri City Stadium, a strategic move aimed at revitalizing the sporting infrastructure in the region. Additionally, an upward review of the Ayakoromo Bridge project was approved, alongside provisions for storm drainage works at Koka Junction and the Achalla-Ibusa area.
In the health sector, Commissioner Dr. Joseph Onojaeme announced the approval of N1.6 billion for the Contributory Health Scheme, with a monthly release of N100 million to sustain healthcare coverage. The government also sanctioned the establishment of a Specialist Hospital at Osubi, featuring a public laboratory and psychiatric clinic, as well as the rehabilitation of the General Hospital in Expan.
Meanwhile, the Exco ratified the presentation of the staff of office to Obi Chukwunonso Justin Nwoko as the Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko Kingdom, the appointment of Obi Ben Azubuike Kanegede as the Ogene of Ibedeni, and the recognition of Olodu as an autonomous community in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
Commissioner Izeze commended Governor Oborevwori for ensuring steady funding for all approved projects, revealing that outstanding payments to contractors, including N8 billion owed on the Trans-Warri Road and bridges, had been cleared. He further disclosed that the redesign of the Effurun Roundabout cloverleaf had been approved to prevent encumbrances for property owners in the area.
With these strategic approvals, the Oborevwori administration is set to accelerate infrastructural and social development, reinforcing Delta State’s position as a hub for economic growth and sustainable urban renewal.
