Delta Governor Committed to Democratic Principles, Says Aide

LAGOS/Nigeria: Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant on Communications to the Delta State Governor and member of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals in Nigeria, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, emphasizing the governor’s neutrality in the ongoing local government elections.

Speaking on a national radio program, Oghenesivbe addressed misleading claims circulating on social media. These claims, made by a former member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accused the governor of sidelining Anioma youths in the election process. Oghenesivbe dismissed these allegations as illogical and mischievous.

“Delta is experiencing full-blown democracy under the visionary leadership of Governor Oborevwori,” Oghenesivbe said. He highlighted the governor’s insistence on transparent, free, and fair primaries within the PDP to ensure that credible and popular candidates with people-focused agendas emerge.

Oghenesivbe, also the Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, reassured that the governor would not be swayed by “notice me” propaganda from political detractors. He attributed such criticisms to personal frustrations and selfish interests devoid of political strategy.

“Delta, especially Anioma youths, will not align with former party members promoting politics of bitterness,” Oghenesivbe stated, praising the governor’s visible achievements in various sectors. “It is not true that Anioma youths were sidelined. Delta is experiencing full-blown democracy under Governor Oborevwori.”

He expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects, predicting victories across all 25 local government councils, thanks to the governor’s performance and that of the immediate past council chairmen. “It is laughable and repugnant to suggest Delta is under a monarchical system. Governor Oborevwori’s leadership is grounded in democratic values,” Oghenesivbe asserted.

He underscored the governor’s commitment to free and transparent primaries to ensure credible candidates while acknowledging the role of opposition parties in the democratic process. Oghenesivbe noted that Anioma youths, well-informed and politically astute, would not be swayed by calls for rebellion within the PDP.

“Youths of Delta State are solidly behind Governor Oborevwori,” he assured. “They are major stakeholders and beneficiaries of the MORE agenda, with qualified youths appointed as Commissioners and Special Advisers, reflecting the governor’s commitment to promoting youth participation in governance.”

Oghenesivbe concluded by emphasizing Delta State’s role as a model of democratic values and principles under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership.
