Delta Governor Assures Support for Families of Agbor Tanker Explosion Victims

ASABA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has pledged government support to the families of victims affected by a tragic tanker explosion in Agbor that claimed four lives and destroyed several buildings.

Representing the governor, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme led a delegation of senior government officials to visit the families and assess the extent of the damage. During the visit, Governor Oborevwori spoke via video call to the husband of one of the deceased, urging him to take solace in God’s will.

Speaking to journalists, Deputy Governor Onyeme described the incident as a deeply unfortunate tragedy. “What happened was an unfortunate accident. Those of us who are alive will do what we can to cushion the effects of the accident on the victims and their families. The Governor asked us to come, see the situation firsthand, and commiserate with the families.”

One of the affected families, represented by Elder Festus Adomugbor, whose wife perished in the fire, expressed gratitude for the government’s swift response. “I want to appreciate the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for this prompt action. I know nothing can bring my wife back to life, but it’s remarkable that the state government sent such a delegation to my home.

“My heart has been heavy since yesterday, and though sympathizers are around, I worry about what will happen when these visits stop,” Adomugbor added, highlighting the long-term emotional toll on the victims’ families.

The visit underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting those affected by unforeseen tragedies and addressing the aftermath of the incident.
