Delta Deputy Governor Hails NYSC as a Vital Catalyst for National Integration

ASABA/Nigeria: The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has lauded the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a pivotal instrument for fostering national integration among Nigerians. His commendation came during a courtesy call by the Delta State Director of NYSC, Mr. Alao Olusegun, and his team to the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

Onyeme acknowledged that the NYSC, over the years, has played a crucial role in uniting the diverse populace of Nigeria. He emphasized that countless Nigerians have reaped the benefits of the program, which deploys youth to various parts of the country with the aim of fostering national unity and integration.

In his own words, Onyeme stated, “NYSC is a medium of national integration; that is why people are posted to different parts of the country. It is a very good scheme, which every Nigerian youth is looking forward to participating in. In our time, we enjoyed the scheme, and some of us even secured jobs in the areas where we served. The NYSC scheme is one that most Nigerians take immense pride in.”

Highlighting the program’s ongoing relevance, Onyeme articulated, “The purpose of the scheme is not lost, and I want to say that we can keep encouraging this scheme to succeed because, apart from the integration, it makes the youth develop close relationships with fellow Nigerians who hail from different localities.”

The Deputy Governor further advocated for an enhancement in the program, suggesting, “I will suggest that the scheme should be such that graduates are posted to serve in their areas of specialization, in places where they can apply the knowledge they acquired in school.”

Onyeme assured NYSC officials of the state government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the NYSC’s continued success.

Before Onyeme’s remarks, Mr. Alao Olusegun expressed that the purpose of their visit was to extend congratulations to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Sir Onyeme for their electoral victories. Additionally, Olusegun pointed out the challenges facing the NYSC in the state and commended the Delta State government for its support.

Prominent government officials who witnessed the visit included the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Johnbull Tonikari, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Sir Christopher Osakwe.
