Delta Deputy Governor Calls for Harmonization of Taxes to Boost Economic Growth

ASABA/Nigeria: The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has advocated for the harmonization of taxes to promote economic growth. He highlighted the importance of streamlining taxes among the three tiers of government to avoid excessive and arbitrary taxation.

The Deputy Governor stated this during a courtesy visit by members of the Hotel Proprietors Association of Nigeria (HPAN), Asaba branch on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Sir Onyeme addressed the challenges posed by tax collection, particularly when local government councils contract out this responsibility, leading to some tax collectors resorting to crude and inappropriate methods to achieve their revenue targets.

Deputy Governor assured the association that efforts would be made to reduce multiple taxation in the state, aiming to encourage business activities and create a conducive environment for investments.

Expressing his satisfaction with the positive returns on investments for hoteliers and other investors in the state, Sir Onyeme praised the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for its commitment to fostering a business-friendly climate.

The President of HPAN, Mr. Okey Ifejokwu, conveyed the association’s best wishes to the Deputy Governor and congratulated him on his current position, highlighting that he was a former member of the association.
