WARRI/Nigeria: The Warri North Local Government Council chairman, Honourable Smart Asekutu has presented the Warri North Local Government Council 2022 Budget Estimate to the Legislative Arm of the council for consideration.
The Budget which was christened ‘Budget of Hope’, is estimated at N7, 336, 300, 000, 00 (Seven billion, three hundred and thirty six million, three hundred thousand naira).
He stated that capital expenditure would gulp N2,786,300,000,00 (two billion, seven hundred and eighty six million, three hundred thousand naira, and recurrent expenditure at N4,546,945,230,672 (four billion, five hundred and forty nine million, nine hundred and forty five thousand two hundred and thirty naira, six hundred and seventy two kobo).
Asekutu noted that the budget was in consonance with government requirement for public finance, accountability, transparency.
He added that the expected sources of funding for the budget included Federal Allocation Account Committee (FAAC), 10% Delta State Internally Generated Revenue (SIGR), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the local government, aid and grants.
“It is my earnest expectation that this year’s budget estimate, if approved, will help enhance the living standard of the people,” he said.
On his part, the Leader of the Warri North Legislative Arm, Honourable Jeyema Urunmatsoma, urged the council chairman to always adhere to the Delta State Local Government Amendment Law of 2017, which he noted, required the draft budget to be presented to the house before the commencement of the financial year.
He emphasized that the house holds the view that if adhered to, the much desired higher percentage of budget implementation and attainment of set goals of the council would be more easily achieved.
Urunmatsoma, however, assured the council chairman that he house would critically examine the budget and give it accelerated consideration and passage, for speedy commencement of its implementation to make up for lost time.
