Delta Corps Members Urged to Champion National Values for Youth Development
ASABA/Nigeria: Corps members serving in Delta State have been urged to actively promote the core national values of moral uprightness and behavioural change in their communities.
This charge was made by Dr. Wilfred Oghenesivbe, the Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, during a courtesy visit to the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Olusegun Alao, at the NYSC office in Asaba.
Dr. Oghenesivbe explained that the purpose of the visit was to foster synergy between the Bureau and the NYSC, particularly in promoting the newly adopted national values introduced by the National Orientation Agency. These values are aimed at instilling moral rectitude and driving behavioural change, especially among the youth.
He highlighted that the Bureau would integrate the promotion of these national values into its school sensitisation campaigns, engaging corps members who are stationed in schools to actively participate in the process of value orientation.
“We are committed to ensuring that the core national values are ingrained in the hearts of Deltans,” Oghenesivbe stated. “Our mission is to redirect the minds of the people, fostering attitudinal change that will contribute to a better society. By blending these national values with those that resonate specifically within Delta State, we aim to create an environment where the people embrace patriotism, honesty, tolerance, unity, service, and the fulfilment of civic responsibilities, as reflected in the National Anthem.”
The Director-General also acknowledged the strong support of the state government, noting that Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is fully committed to the vision of building a better Delta and is prepared to enhance the Bureau’s workforce to ensure more effective service delivery.
In response, Mr. Olusegun Alao, the NYSC State Coordinator, extended his congratulations to Dr. Oghenesivbe on his appointment as the Director-General of the Bureau. He expressed confidence in Oghenesivbe’s ability to leverage his experience to elevate the Bureau and inspire positive change within the state, particularly among the youth.
Alao also reiterated the NYSC’s openness to collaboration, affirming the corps’ readiness to align with the new national values and integrate them into its operations. “The NYSC is fully committed to the national values and the principles embedded in our anthem, and we are keen to partner with the Bureau in projecting government policies and initiatives,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement that the NYSC corps members would actively participate in the Bureau’s programmes to support the shared goal of instilling values that promote unity and national progress.
