Delta Commends Federal Government’s Ban on Nollywood’s Depiction of Money Rituals and Social Vices

LAGOS/Nigeria: The Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB) has praised the federal government’s recent ban on Nigerian films that depict money rituals, smoking, and other social vices. The ban, aimed at curbing the negative influence of such content, has been hailed as a significant step toward addressing moral decay and criminality in society.

Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, Chief Executive Officer of DSOB, commended the move during a press briefing on Wednesday in Lagos.

Speaking about DSOB’s upcoming campaigns against moral decadence and dishonesty, Dr. Oghenesivbe emphasized the detrimental impact of movies showcasing money rituals and social vices.

“The majority of Nigerian movies focus on money rituals or other ‘get-rich-quick’ storylines, which consistently undermine our moral values, good conscience, and hard work,” Dr. Oghenesivbe remarked. “The ban on such films is a crucial step in reversing this negative trend and promoting a sane and productive society.”

He also praised Dr. Hussein, Director General of the Nigerian Film Censors Board, for leading the reform process that culminated in the ban, urging continued efforts in this direction.

“Delta State Orientation Bureau fully supports the ban on scenes of money rituals and social vices in Nigerian movies. These films send harmful signals to our youth and adults, contributing to incidents of ritual killings for money,” he said. “Depictions of smoking in films also encourage young people to smoke and use other illicit drugs.”

Dr. Oghenesivbe called on Nigerian scriptwriters, producers, and production managers to focus on stories that promote hard work, patriotism, honesty, moral values, good conscience, and peaceful coexistence.

“Society is crumbling due to western cultural influences and the ‘get-rich-quick’ syndrome, which must be stopped. We all must work together to rebuild a new Nigeria where integrity, moral values, and patriotism are paramount,” he concluded.
