Delta Assembly CPS Appreciates Journalists, Seeks Synergy in 2025
ASABA/Nigeria: The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, has called on media practitioners to continue supporting the activities of the State House of Assembly and the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, in the 8th Assembly.
Mr. Nwaeke made this appeal during a breakfast meeting with Assembly correspondents and other journalists at his residence in Asaba on Monday. The gathering, part of Christmas and end-of-year celebrations, aimed to foster stronger collaboration between his office and the media.
In his remarks, Mr. Nwaeke expressed gratitude to journalists for their unwavering support since his appointment as Chief Press Secretary on December 19, 2023. He emphasized the critical role they have played in ensuring his success in office.
“I recall that fateful day when the House was about to adjourn for the year, and Mr. Speaker announced my appointment. It came as a surprise to many, but I resolved to carry everyone along, knowing our shared history of working closely over the years. My role as CPS will never separate us,” Nwaeke said.
He described the breakfast meeting as a gesture of appreciation, adding, “This is my little way of saying thank you for your support. I assure you that in 2025, we will continue to synergize and work together to project the Speaker and the Assembly positively.”
Mr. Nwaeke commended his principal, Rt. Hon. Guwor, for his support and for recognizing the efforts of journalists in promoting the Assembly’s activities. He urged media practitioners to maintain their commitment to accurate and constructive reportage.
“Let me appreciate my boss, Rt. Hon. Guwor, for his understanding and recognition of the media’s role in giving visibility to the Assembly’s work. His support has been a moral boost, and I look forward to continued collaboration,” he added.
The Delta State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, lauded the initiative and praised Mr. Nwaeke for hosting the breakfast meeting. He recounted their long-standing relationship from their days at Delta State University, Abraka, describing Nwaeke as a capable and diligent professional.
“I have known Nkem Nwaeke since our university days, and he has always been hardworking and committed. His success as CPS is our collective success as journalists, and we must continue to support one another,” Oyovwe stated.
Veteran journalists and other stakeholders, including Mr. Augustine Ogwuda of Townhall Online, Ebere Obiakor of AIT, and Comrade Pere Botu, NUJ DBS Asaba Chapel Chairman, commended Mr. Nwaeke for maintaining strong professional relationships.
The breakfast meeting was attended by journalists from various media platforms, including broadcast, print, and online publishers, highlighting the inclusive approach of the CPS in fostering unity within the profession.
