Delta Assembly Confirms Otto Aghoghophia as Clerk, Edoge as Deputy Clerk
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Mr. Otto Aghoghophia as the substantive Clerk of the State Legislature. The confirmation followed a motion by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Edafe Emakpor, and adopted during the plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Aghoghophia, a lawyer, was appointed Deputy Clerk in March 2017 and has been serving as Acting Clerk since June 2023, following the elevation of former Clerk Mrs. Lyna Ocholor to Principal Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
In addition to confirming Aghoghophia’s appointment, the House also confirmed the appointment of Mr. Smart Edoge as Deputy Clerk. Prior to his new role, Edoge was head of the Legal Department of the State Legislature.
Speaker Guwor congratulated both appointees, urging them to leverage their extensive experience in their respective offices. He emphasized the importance of their roles in legislative processes and encouraged them to uphold the standards of the Assembly.
The confirmation of Aghoghophia’s appointment was met with widespread celebration, particularly from members of the political class and the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Delta State Chapter. Colleagues described Aghoghophia as dedicated and hardworking, noting that his seven-year tenure as Deputy Clerk demonstrated his capacity to excel in his duties.
Respondents further stated that the appointment was long overdue and expressed confidence that his new position as substantive Clerk would enhance his ability to drive legislative progress and improve staff welfare.
