Delta Assembly Committee Reaffirms Commitment to Road Infrastructure Completion
OWA-ALERO/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Special Projects has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to completing all ongoing road infrastructure projects across the state. Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oboro Preyor, made this assurance during an oversight visit to various construction sites in Oshimili North and Ika North East Local Government Areas.
Hon. Preyor stated that the site visits, which took place on Monday, October 7, 2024, marked the conclusion of the first phase of the Committee’s project inspection across the three senatorial districts of the state. Representing Bomadi Constituency, Preyor emphasized the determination of the 8th Delta Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to every corner of the state, especially the grassroots.
Joined by committee members Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Edafe Emakpor, Ferguson Onwo, James Augoye, and Ebitonmo Alapala, Preyor described the three-week oversight inspections as crucial to maintaining standards, accountability, and ensuring the timely completion of the projects. He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his efforts to expedite project completion, pledging the Committee’s full support in that regard.
The Committee inspected several key projects, including road rehabilitation, expansion works, and water discharge channels in Okpanam, Oshimili North, as well as drainage construction in Owa-Alero and surrounding areas in Ika North East. Preyor emphasized the Legislature’s constitutional mandate to ensure adequate budgetary allocations for ongoing projects and their successful implementation, reiterating that it remains a top priority for the Assembly.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the projects, Preyor underscored the lawmakers’ responsibility to ensure that Deltans receive value for government expenditure on developmental initiatives. He highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s “More Agenda,” which continues to extend across all three senatorial districts. Preyor also revealed that the Committee’s first phase of oversight had covered 21 project sites across the state.
The lawmaker further stressed that the inspections would help inform decisions during the 2025 budget presentation and defense, ensuring that resources are allocated where needed. He urged Deltans to continue supporting Governor Oborevwori in fulfilling his campaign promises.
At the drainage construction site in Owa-Alero, Preyor praised the contractor and consultants for adhering to approved designs and urged them to expedite completion. However, he called on the contractor responsible for the water discharge channel in Okpanam to return to the site and complete the remaining work.
Preyor assured that the Committee would compile a comprehensive report on the inspected projects to facilitate further actions. Other members of the Committee expressed confidence that the oversight visits would help accelerate the completion of the various projects across the state.
