ASABA/Nigeria: The Minority Caucus of the Delta State House of Assembly has distanced itself from a media report alleging a planned political shift involving High Chief Promise Lawuru ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a strongly worded statement signed by all seven All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the State Assembly, the caucus condemned the use of their group photograph in the publication, describing it as “unprofessional and misleading.”
The statement, titled “RE: SOUTHERN YOUTH LEADER, LAWURU, PLANS MAJOR POLITICAL SHIFT AHEAD OF 2027, MEETS APC LAWMAKERS – A REJOINDER,” urged the public to disregard the report published by GbaramatuVoice TV and circulated on social media.
The lawmakers clarified that Lawuru had invited them to the Oginbiri Day Celebration in Warri North Local Government Area on January 11, 2025, an event only three of them attended due to prior commitments. They further explained that, as a gesture of appreciation, Lawuru hosted them for a breakfast meeting at his Warri residence on February 1, 2025. However, they insisted that no discussion took place concerning the performance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori or the 2027 elections, as the publication suggested.
“The use of photographs from that courtesy visit to promote a misleading narrative is unprofessional,” the lawmakers stated. “We have a cordial working relationship with the Governor and no reason to engage in such discussions.”
The statement was jointly signed by Hon. Emakpor Edafe Esq (Minority Leader, Uvwie Constituency), Hon. Ebitonmo Anthony Alapala (Minority Whip, Burutu Constituency 1), Hon. Matthew Onojighofia Omonade, Esq (Ughelli North Constituency 1), Hon. Spencer Obakore Owhofa Esq (Ughelli North Constituency 2), Hon. Collins Ovie Egbetama, Esq (Udu Constituency), Hon. Achoja Blessing (Ethiope West Constituency), and Hon. Benson Obire (Warri South Constituency 2).
The APC lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to constructive legislative duties and warned against attempts to misrepresent their engagements for political gain.
