Delta APC Acting Chairman Submits Alternate Report, Criticizes Reconciliation Committee’s Work
ASABA/Nigeria: The Acting Chairman of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Francis I. Obigbor, Esq., has submitted the Alternate Report of the Olorogun O’tega Emerhor-led Reconciliation Committee to the National leadership of the APC in Abuja.
The document challenges the validity and findings of the Majority Report issued by the committee, highlighting significant flaws in its formation, composition, and recommendations.
In a press statement released on December 20, 2024, Chief Obigbor detailed the critical issues raised in the Alternate Report. The document alleges the Reconciliation Committee was illegally constituted, lacked transparency, failed to achieve genuine reconciliation, and ignored grassroots feedback. It further accused certain committee members of harboring conflicts of interest, undermining the credibility of their recommendations.
One of the most contentious issues outlined in the Alternate Report is the Majority Report’s proposal for the establishment of councils of leaders at various levels of the party structure. Chief Obigbor dismissed the recommendation as unconstitutional, biased, and counterproductive to the unity and progress of the party.
In contrast, the Alternate Report offers an array of measures to strengthen party cohesion and address internal challenges. These include ensuring regular meetings of party organs, conducting free and fair congresses, analyzing the 2023 elections, engaging grassroots members, promoting transparency and accountability, and empowering APC members through federal initiatives. The report also calls for the creation of a new, unbiased reconciliation committee to replace the current framework.
The Alternate Report has garnered significant support within the Delta APC, securing endorsements from nine of the 21 committee members, including the Deputy State Chairman, the State Secretary, and other state working committee members. It is further backed by six out of seven APC members of the Delta State House of Assembly, 16 members of the State Executive Committee, 24 LGA chairmen, all 25 LGA secretaries, a serving House of Representatives member, and several other notable party stakeholders.
Among the high-profile endorsers are Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, two former speakers of the Delta State House of Assembly, a former deputy speaker, and the pioneer chairman of Delta APC. Their collective backing underscores the gravity of the issues raised in the Alternate Report and the urgency for reforms within the party.
Chief Obigbor emphasized the need for transparency, unity, and inclusivity as critical to the Delta APC’s growth and relevance. “This Alternate Report is a roadmap for genuine reconciliation and sustainable progress. We must rebuild trust and ensure that the APC remains a formidable force in Delta State and beyond,” he stated.
The submission of the Alternate Report has set the stage for intensified debates within the APC’s national leadership as the party seeks to resolve internal conflicts and strengthen its structures ahead of future political challenges.
