ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has announced the temporary closure of select schools in Oshimili South Local Government Area to accommodate the upcoming National Youth Games, set to take place in Asaba.
The schools will be closed from Monday, 9th September, to Thursday, 19th September, 2024, with normal academic activities resuming on Monday, 23rd September, 2024.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, signed by the Director of Public Communication and Acting Permanent Secretary, Theresa Adiabua Oliko, the affected schools include:
- West End Mixed Secondary School, Asaba
- Junior Staff Primary School, Asaba
- Government Model Secondary School, Asaba
- Unity Secondary School, Asaba
- Osadenis Mixed Secondary School, Asaba
- Anglican Girls Grammar School, Asaba
- St. Patrick’s College, West End, Asaba
- Infant Jesus Academy, Asaba
- Master Care International School, Asaba
- Model Technical College, Asaba
The ministry emphasized that while the schools will be closed for regular academic sessions during the specified period, admission activities will continue.
The closure is part of a staggered resumption plan initiated by the Ministry of Education to ensure a smooth execution of the National Youth Games.
The government urges the public to take note of the closure dates and assures that all necessary measures have been put in place for the smooth reopening of the schools on the specified date.
