DELSU Ranked Among Top Universities in Sub-Saharan Africa by THE, Announces Launch of ODL Directorate

ABRAKA/Nigeria: In a significant achievement, Delta State University, Abraka has been ranked in the 61-70th bracket of Universities in Sub-Saharan Africa by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking of 2023.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, who also revealed that the institution has been listed among the four State Universities in the Reporter Status in the recently released 2024 World Ranking by THE, indicating its potential for a higher rank in the next edition.
Moreover, Prof. Egwunyenga announced the establishment of the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) at DELSU. He highlighted that this initiative aims to broaden access to quality education, allowing students from any part of the world to learn from their homes.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the ODL system of education, scheduled to commence in June with the Nursing Science programme, will utilize interactive texts, CD ROMs, DVDs, and USB sticks for e-lectures, simulations, and assessments, eliminating the need for physical attendance except for specific occasions like examinations.
Expressing his administration’s commitment to transforming DELSU into one of the best state universities in Nigeria, Prof. Egwunyenga outlined various achievements, including the expansion of infrastructure, introduction of new academic programs, and significant growth in student population.
He emphasized the university’s focus on enhancing staff morale and fostering harmony among stakeholders.
Furthermore, he highlighted DELSU’s stable academic environment over the past five years, showcasing uninterrupted academic programs. Prof. Egwunyenga praised the university’s strong relationship with the community and the state government, noting its commitment to quality teaching, research, enterprise, and community service.
Additionally, he emphasized DELSU’s efforts in fostering international collaborations and hosting conferences on critical topics, showcasing the institution’s commitment to innovation and academic excellence.
The Vice Chancellor called on media houses to support the ODL program’s publicity, underscoring its potential to provide quality education to a broader audience. With these developments, Delta State University, Abraka, continues to make strides in academic excellence and access to quality education.
